LILACnet - social network for LILAC10

LILACnet is the combined wiki and social network for LILAC10.

UKCLE first used a wiki to support LILAC in 2009. We had three key aims:

1. To 'get more out of LILAC' by making conference resources easily accessible.
2. To capture some of the informal exchanges which take place at the conference.
3. To give presenters the opportunity to manage their own session.

We were pretty successful - see the LILAC 2009 wiki for feedback and more about what the wiki actually contained - which meant we had to think about how to improve the wiki experience for LILAC10!

On LILACnet you will find the same content as on last year's wiki, and we'll again be adding slides to UKCLE's slidespace. But as well as that you can:

• comment on the abstracts
• contribute to discussions
• set up a profile and communicate with other LILACnet members

We chose Wetpaint to host LILACnet as it combines both wiki and social networking services and is very flexible. If you have not used a similar service before - Facebook is probably the most well known social network, but there are numerous other examples, such as LinkedIn and niche services for academics such as Academia.edu and the EvidenceNet social network - the jargon and layout may well seem unfamiliar, but help and support is available and we hope that LILAC presenters and participants will take to networking on LILACnet with as much enthusiasm as they do every January on the Warwick campus!
