Supporting the scholarship of learning and teaching in law
Each year UKCLE offers funding for projects and research. For 2009-10 we have identified four priority areas - see the Project Development Fund page for details, or contact Tracey Varnava on: t.varnava@warwick.ac.uk.
Researching legal education
UKCLE's research strategy is based on the assumption that support for and engagement in research is vital for educational development, and we are working both to nurture research capacity and to raise the profile of research into learning and teaching in law.
We support pedagogic research in a number of ways:
- our Project Development Fund offers small grants for research projects - see funded projects for details of all projects past and present
- our Visiting Fellowship Scheme enables legal education scholars to be attached to UKCLE for up to six months
- occasional workshops on research methods in conjunction with the law subject associations
New projects:
Publishing opportunities
UKCLE also supports the scholarship of learning and teaching in law by providing seedcorn funding to colleagues who wish to investigate, evaluate or develop pedagogic practice:
- guidance notes - with a focus on generic issues
- teaching and learning manuals - approaches to teaching particular law subjects
- subject surveys - an opportunity to map the teaching and learning profile of specfic areas of law
We have produced a number of publications as a result of this work - see the UKCLE publications page for details.
We also work with colleagues to develop Web-based teaching and learning resources for law teachers. To enable the exchange and promotion of practice across UK law schools, we have established a series of teaching resource notes - short, practical guides for those with limited time but a desire to share their teaching experiences with others.
